hi ali, yes a min knowledge of sql is required to learn dba. even though pl/sql is not imp, it is better to have a min knowledge on that too.

Hi, My name is Ankit. I am a Btech CSE graduate 2016 fresher. I am currently studying for oracle dba OCA certification. But i heard that there are few number of jobs regarding this. Companies dont hire fresher for dba role. So Does this certification have a value in IT industry?
And if so, then do i need to learn any other course other than this or do i need to learn deeper in oracle database?
Do i need any programming languages for being dba?
And do i need OCP certification too? But OCP certification requires 3-5 years of experience?

there is nothing like companies won’t take as fresher. i started as fresher dba only. you need to have in depth knowledge and good handson in order to get selected than others. also certification is good if u do it. it is not only for exp candidates.

Hi Kirit, it would be possible, but you need to keep on trying. it will take time to strike the right opportunity. you can choose either testing or as you said you already have idea, you can also go ahead with oracle dba.

Hi Sir, I have done oracle oracle DBA course 1 yr before. And did SQL 1Z0-047 and OCA certification. I have good knowledge in Oracle DBA and how architecture works. But i did’nt get job as Oracle DBA so I have decided to go with PLSQL and I got job in PLSQL Application Support in TCS. And i am working from last 1 year and seems that work is not at all technical. 1. Firstly can I be able to enter Oracle DBA field with this much of experience as a SQL Server DBA.

I am working as PL/SQL devloper from the past 5 years, I wanted to change to DBA. Is it the right decision. The main reason behind it is i wanted to know more about the internals. how the query is working and all the stuff. As a developer we just submit the query thats all. after that what happens we dont know anything. so, i want to know all that details. More over the development work is not challenging any more after working from these many years..

hi sushil, learning itself is not imp u need to do lot of practice in those concepts. also as u r 2011 passout, getting chance as fresher would be impossible. so u need to try with exp only. when ur practise is good, then u can clear exp level interviews.

hi geetha, there are good openings in dubai or abudhabi but for exp ppl like 6+ yrs. if any jobs with less exp are there, most of them here are getting through reference only. you need to go through oracle dba course and rac course.

hi, if you wish to switch to dba field, then those topics will help you alot. if u remain to be in developer field, then topics like golden gate etc may not give that much benefit. ofcourse for learning purpose u can have them.

1. core dba
2. rac
3. apps dba

I did my BTech in 2006 with 55%,after that i have gap of 3 years After that did my MTech 2009-12 with 65%.during my MTech itself got job in an MNC ,there i worked for 3 years as a contractor in c,c++,Unix,sql,shell scripting..But now i am not interested in coding.
Because every time client calls in a week,and need to finish the coding as well as bug fixings as per the dead lines,preparing required design docs …etc…….So want to change my technologies as well as domain.If i learn oracle DBA,may i know what kind of job description will be there.Please provide me what kind of work in the IT industry for oracle DBA.

oracle dba manages the databases for the client. if u feel client is putting pressure in ur current job, frankly it will be more in dba path because we will be handling critical databases at times. otherwise dba is a good option for career change.

hi govind, now-a-days percentage is not a big criteria for getting selected into companies. all you need is to show your talent in the course you selected or technology you learned.
reg learning dba, you can very well do that. but fresher openings for dba will be less when compared to other technologies. if u do dba, rac and apps dba, then chances will be more.

Moving ahead, I am working with one of the top 5 IT Corporate orgs. of India.Total work exp : 3 years 8 months.
A big chunk of my career I worked in IBM Mainframe and that included DB2 also.Ofcourse in the process I worked in
the Oracle PL/SQL also and now have moved to Functional Consultant role.
But,this role has not much prospect , and about time to explore options.
so,my queries.
1.Oracle DBA role is a high demanding role and will you people provide enough real time project scenarios
and situations through dummy projects? If Yes, How many such projects ?
Cracking interview is one thing,experience tells working is total different thing.I am worried about that part.
Though Oracle remains one of the fav.technology.
2.Would a combination of multi-skill – Mainframe and Oracle DBA create any issues ? I would like to segregate them
accordingly like 2-2 years and pitch in.Oracle DBA skill sets would be good enough for that?
or any extra thing like apps.dba skill sets would be required?
3.Time or duration of course?
4.Ball park figure of course -cost.?

Plz help me to troubleshoot this slow connectivity Issue.
We have a web-based application, wherein the browser on the client communicates with the HTTP protocol to a Web server to make a connection request. The Web server sends the request to an application where it is processed and then application communicates with the database server.
Customers are compalining that the application is running very slow(eg: opening the homepage is taking 10secs, ofcourse which is not aceptable) and we have also noticed the same. I tried few things but that didnt workout. I dont see any problem in respect to queries to fine tune and load avg is also not high its around 0.05-1.0 at max…(its not yet in production,final testing phase)
Details of app server: Windows 2007, Application is on .Net
Details of DB Server: RHEL 5.0, Database is on Oracle 11g
please help me if some network checking or parameters needs to be modified or added.

oracle contains two different paths. if u like coding/programming, u can go with oracle apps technical. if u don’t like coding, then u can do oracle dba course. 11g is version of database in oracle dba. oracle dba and oracle 11g are not different. after doing oracle dba, if u wish u can do oracle apps dba which will be another stream in dba itself.

1. just like oracle, mysql is also a separate database and people who manages that are called as mysql-dba. either oracle dba or mysql dba, responsibilities will be same
2. it is not possible for any institute to give that. OCA and OCP are certification exams from oracle corporation and only oracle corp can give that to candidate once you clear the exam
3. we only provide oracle dba training which helps you to acquire the knowledge for writing certification. ofcourse we do suggest on how to write it also. duration for total course is 60 days
4. fee is 10500
5. you need to know sql and unix basics. we will provide 15 days overview on these before starting dba in our course.

performance tuning will be covered in dba.
rac and apps dba are separate courses and fee is also separate. but if you opt for a package, then you would be getting discount. for that you need to talk to director of institute by calling to the numbers given in my page.

Yes, the details about quality of training is exactly same that follow.
I am the dba trainer in kanna tech and there is another trainer who gives online training. Due to my office timings, I am restricted to take only classroom training. quality of the other trainer is also very good.
unfortunately, we don’t have any crash course in classroom based, but online training is crash course. also, that is live training and not a pre-recorded video based.

to do oracle dba course, u need to learn sql language and unix basics. in kanna technologies, we teach sql n unix basics before starting with dba course and its free of charge. but as we do only with sql basics and not discuss in details, i recommend you to do this course from any other place and as per my knowledge it would take 15 days (if u do it as crash course). once u complete that, you can join kanna technologies for dba course. for unix basics u dont need to do any course outside, what ever the classes we take is enough for dba.
reg fee, it is 10500 and for other details, u can call to 040-40036087 / 8008500064.
reg placements, after course completion we conduct mock interviews and select top 5 candidates and will refer them. but for a fresher, only dba course is not enough and u need to do either rac or apps dba course. if u get selected in that top 5, kanna tech will give u either rac or apps dba training for free also.

learning only oracle SQL is not enough. If you are interested in programming side, you can do PL/SQL also and then learn Oracle apps technical financials module. because you are commerce graduate, this will help your career.
If you are not interested in programming side, then you can learn Oracle DBA after completing sql course.(pl/sql is not required)

i am not sure about sql DBA, but getting a fresher job on oracle DBA is a bit tough process and u need to have patience in keep on trying. also, to get a fresher job, now a days, learning oracle DBA itself is not enough, u need to learn oracle RAC or APPS DBA along with DBA.
Reg career prospects, both SQL DBA and Oracle DBA r having good scope in future. Being oracle DBA, i can suggest you to learn Oracle DBA only 🙂

I am a 5 yr experiance plsql developer. I want to continue my carrier as Oracle DBA. I have done some DBA tasks on my development DB like restore/backup, RMAN recover/ backup, database installation/ setup, Creating users, Granting privilages/roles, performance tuning.

yes your career option will be good if you choose DBA and you will get good package also. Please do DBA course from any good institute and in your resume, you can put that you have worked both as developer and DBA also. or even as what you suggested (like 2+ as plsql and 3+ as DBA)

you need to do oracle 11g or 10g dba course for this. but you may not get job as fresher as you are already experienced in other field.

it depends on interest to go for either oracle dba side or oracle technical(financials) side. if u can do programming, it is better to go for oracle financials. if not choose oracle dba.
1. to work on oracle dba, u need to complete that course first
2. any one can learn oracle dba, but chances for getting job as a fresher dba is comparetively less. so i prefer to learn oracle apps dba or rac along with dba if u r trying as a fresher.
3. u can learn apps dba directly, but strongly not recommended as some of apps dba topics requires dba knowledge.

hi gowthami, u need to have knowledge on sql and unix basics in order to learn oracle dba. for a fresher, i suggest to go for oracle apps dba rather than rac. reg job openings, frankly for freshers openings will be less, but with some good knowledge and certification, u can get job easily.
