Hi Rajeev, Oracle is having another product called e-business suite. it contains both the database and application server. people who manages both of them are called apps dba’s.
reg your another q, yes you can do RAC DBA on your own. But may be some real time scenerio’s may not be practised. but i dnt think that would be a problem, because you have many forums in which the questions will be discussed. once you go through them, you will ge to know about RAC issues.

(I am just sharing my good experience what i got or still getting from pavan sir and hope will alz get that confidence,support and of-course the positive thinking from pavan sir)
I must say one thing that if you are looking for a good institute for Oracle DBA in Hyderabad, will say Pavan sir is the best.As a Oracle DBA there is one thing we should alz think that how and why.So now coming to why.. Pavan sir bcoz u may find some other faculty with 15-20yrs of experience,but thats not the scenario.Let me explain with a example….Take an example that u r learning bike riding.So the persons who are having 15-20yrs of exp when u go to them,they will teach you the extra-ordinary stunts of bike ridding,which you will feel good at the time of classes and you will say he(DBA faculty)is having very good knowledge,he knows everything But thats not why you are going to that person to judge he is good or bad.You are going to learn something which is totally new to you,so as he is having a huge exp in that field so he shd come down to your level and should start from the scratch.
You can check with the materials they are providing,it is only the copy and paste from google.And mean while check the material by Pavan sir,when i saw that i felt yes he had represent his experience in that material.And one more very imp point,every DBA faculty will only teach you for 1-2hour and he will leave but for demo(practical) another lab faculty will come and will show you the demo but Pavan sir will do the both & he alz discuss interview question and answers also.

One more thing i would like to share is by knowing only commands we can work as a DBA but to crack interview or to be a good DBA(Like Performance Tunning) we should know how the commands are executing inside Oracle.I think here is the difference between a DBA and good DBA.Your notes and your explanation shows how much effort you give on your training (as per your words knowledge sharer).

Hi Krishna,
as you might have already know, core dba knowledge is req for apps dba. after doing dba, either you can go for apps dba or rac. both are having equal oppurtunities in the market. RAC will be advanced to dba, where as apps dba deals more with application servers.
I personally prefer to go for apps dba as i see its easy to get job rather than RAC (but this opinion is purely personal)

we’ve connected javascript of (Application server10g) to (Database server on Unix is 9i) , after that we r getting this below error. and here the time is diffrnt on both servers. like 7.30 on unix server and 12.30 is windowsvserver.

Hi Poorna, instead of changing time for servers, first you need to check whether both windows machine and unix AIX are in same timezone.

We are having an application on Java and database is Oracle. Here when we r trying to retrieve data by logging in Superuser it works run very fast and when i am trying from SQL plus and Toad also its very fast, but when we r connecting a normal user its taking time to connect database and retrieve data.
we r having many users the client getting cals, i dont know what to do ..pls let me know what could be the reason. I was checked blockings,wait_class..every thing fine.
Pls suggest me what to do exactly.

Hope you are doing good and i need your help. I already informed earlier i am working as DBA and now my comp has given huge task. you are the only one able to help me out. i’ll giv u a brief about my setup. It is 2 node RAC so now they etup connected to a SAN storage and size of DB is 500GB on Windows 2003. So now they r having a new storage box with 3TBand they asked to migrate this entire setup to new one. So please provide me the detailed doc on this. i am thinking that i’ve to configure RAC on windows 2003 on new storage box and i’ve to take cold backup of database and need to migrate on new storage. So please provide me the steps with scripts to complete this task.
Pls Pavan help me out on this. pls pls pls pls..its my survival issue and i joine just a week back in this organisation.

Hi, are you using ASM? if not i see migration from one SAN to other SAN is the work of storage or windows admin team. if you are changing only SAN and keeping nodes as it is, then no major work for you. in such case shutdown database, windows team will migrate data (ask them to create same drives in new SAN). once they are ready then do a startup
If you are using ASM, after once new SAN is added, you can use RMAN commands to move files from first SAN to new one.
I don’t have a specific doc for this, but in google you will get them. plz see below link

Hi Mandeep, networking is a part of software industry only. either you choose oracle or network, both are admin side. but as you are already certified on CCNA, i suggest you to try on that only instead of shifting to new platform

sir, when lgwr process is writting data into redolog files if once log switch occures nw it(lgwr) is going to write into 2nd file in cyclic oreder ok…. nw again 2nd file is filled and log switch occured and offline archive also generated for 1st redolog file means it is in inactive state still my users are not able to perform DML operations and my db is in hang mode but they can able to perform retrival operations…so,wht’s the problem?? and what w’d b the solution???(interview question by digital group)…plz reply

The problem could be logical corruption of redolog file. we can use below command to clear that..
SQL> alter database clear logfile ‘PATH’;
or
SQL> alter database clear unarchived logfile ‘PATH’;
But this may not be exact problem, so to know more detials we need to see alert log or any trace file with name of LGWR or ARCH in bdump location

ora-600 are oracle internal errors which can occur due to many reasons. In my experience i had seen that error will occur mostly when you hit with a bug. The solution to any ora-600 error is to contact oracle support (metalink). In that you can check for “ora-600 lookup tool” in search bar. If you didn’t found any info, then you can raise a service request with oracle.
I think you already know that metalink access is available only for licensed users.
About, execution of sql statement, yes it will happen in PGA. only parsing will be done in Library cache…..

its not a long course…in 2 days you can learn dataguard…we are about to show that for current batch in a week or so. if possible you can come down for those 2 days and attend the classes

If you have good knowledge on SQL n Unix commands, you can join Oracle DBA batch which is starting from tomorrow (22nd feb). If you don’t have the knowledge, then you can join next batch starts from 7th March 2011. batch timings are 8:30 to 10. In this we will cover SQL and Unix commands before starting DBA. Call to the mentioned numbers as below for more details.
